Capital Health Care Pty Ltd (Canberra) approves the use off the Accu-Chek Safe-T-Pro Plus as a lancet system. This system is also used by The Australian Blood Bank, the safety T pro plus is impossible to reuse, this lancet (details below) only works once and is a complete throw away item. Other lancets use the same pen and a different lancet for each person, the risk of using a used lancet is higher.
Home use lancet systems are not suitable as contamination risks are an unacceptable standard for multiple testing. These systems use the same pen and end cap – the end cap is a huge contamination issue. Under no circumstances are home use lancet systems to be used.
Pen systems muti use approved (no end cap involved):
Pen systems use a new lancet with a twist top throw away end cap however the pen is picked up mutable times and used again and again for each person which is a risk of contamination to the testing officer and greater risk of infection in the case of Hep B, Hep C etc.
Capital Health Care changed from a Ames Minilet Lancet 5966 which was the safest and the highest quality available at the time in 2005. Capital Health Care now approves the use to the newer Safety T Pro plus which follows the same change over time as the blood bank. Capital Health Care realises this is a more expensive option but in the interest of hygiene it is not worth cutting costs in this department as it will increase your risk of infection.
Safe usage instructions are enclosed within each box – the end of the finger may be lanced instead of the side as individuals have completed a grip strength test which increases circulation immediately before the test. Capital Health Care testing procedure recommends lancing the ring finger on the right hand to make a uniform lancing code.
The side of the finger must be lanced when a grip strength test is not performed.
Latex or vinyl gloves must be changed for each person
Capital Health Care Pty Ltd hygiene procedure must be stated, and sterile lancets / clean gloves identified by the individual being tested.
The ring finger of the right hand should be lanced (uniform testing standard)
Detailed instructions in every box
As per the training video your pen (writing) for recording information should not be picked up until gloves are removed. – remember hygiene comes first
