Cholesterol testing, we can test the following - High Density Lipoproteins (HDL) is know as good cholesterol, Low Density Lipoproteins (LDL) & Tryglycerides (TRIG) are the nasty guys that block your arteries and total colesterol gives you an staff an overall reading. It is important every couple of years to inform individuals of their HDL level. Staff do not have to fast when measuring total cholesterol and HDL.

Each employee receives

A report on their cholesterol, glucose and blood pressure along with the normal ranges for each result. Referrals and advice are given with each test where applicable.

Note; Cholesterol and diabetes testing is pathology grade. We also now offer full onsite pathology breakdown of cholesterol including H.D.L (good cholesterol), Triglycerides, and L.D.L, (bad cholesterol). We are also using optic laser technology and operate the newest cholesterol testing equipment in Australia, there is no need to draw blood and send the sample away this is expensive and time consuming for your staff.

Why are our tests more suitable for your staff?

A Lordosis test looks at the lumbar curvature in the lower spine, particularly L3 & L4. (were your belt line sits) During this test the individual is asked to stand flat against a wall, and then asked to perform an isometric contraction of their abdominal muscles. The test identifies the level of abdominal support the individual has and also identifies any excessive lumbar curvature.

The Strength test, the Lordosis test and the Flexibility test are linked in that 80% of lower back pain is contributed by tight hamstrings. The Flexibility test is a lot different to a flexibility test you receive at your local fitness centre. We test hip rotation with a straight spinal cord, (toe touching is not required) this enables us to look and poor knee and ankle positions. E.g. a tight calf muscle will lead to employees rolling and ankle. Identification of this problem is particularly useful if your employees are on their feet all day. (poor footwear is also addressed)

Weak hand strength suggests the individual has a low activity level and is lacking in joint support (which leads to RSI issues). Exercises such as sit-ups, pelvic floor excises and push-ups are demonstrated whilst explaining correct technique. These tests are useful for both the static employee who are seated all day and staff who are on there feet in a factory floor position.

Testing is conducted within guidelines as depicted by the World Health Organisation and A.C.T hygiene laws. The objective of the program is to collect statistics and to give individuals an accurate guide to their current basic health. The Early Detection Program is tax deductible for companies and can be claimed through occupational health & safety.

Statistics collected over the last six years reveal that, in an average year, we will call 5 to 10 ambulances to deal with patient high blood pressure. In 30 tests we generally find two Type II Diabetics, six high-risk cholesterol problems and four high blood pressure readings.  Our referral rate for further testing and advice is between six and 10 referrals for every 30 tests. The highest female blood pressure reading we have recorded was 283 / 172 in Mitchell Industrial Zone (normal is 120 / 80) and 210 / 170 for a male in Fyshwick Industrial Zone.For a list of benefits for everyone please see Employer Benefits

Cholesterol / Glucose:

Cholesterol results are given within three minutes. Blood glucose results are available within twelve seconds, and can give an indication of diabetes. Appropriate questions will be asked in regard to your family history any medication you are taking and what you have been eating, drunk on the day of the test. In ten years Capital Health Care has never been advised by any medical professional or organisation that the result given was incorrect. A range of handouts will be available at the completion of testing. Consultation / referral takes place if necessary.

Accuracy:

Cholesterol tests conducted without fasting are accurate to within 0.2 to 0.5 mmol/L. A random test may result in a reading of 6.8 mmol/L. This result is in the high risk category and will receive a referral for further testing; a pathology result would indicate between 6.5 and 6.7 mmol/L. The idea behind the early detection program is to give you the opportunity to detect problems before they become life threatening. Normal cholesterol results are below 5.40 mmol/L.

Fasting:

If you wish to fast for the test, the testing officer can give you an indication of when our staff can be in your area to do this.  Testing done in conjunction with fasting is 100% accurate, but not necessary for total cholesterol testing (please ring for details).

5 days notice 50% charge

Less than 5 days notice 70% charge

Less than 48hrs - 100% charge

Rate of charge is based on 3 employees per hour or 21 employees per day.
