HEALTH EATING PYRAMID

The shape is the same, but this pyramid from Harvard Medical School makes some major changes to the inside of the structure.

The new pyramid recommends:

  • Sharply restricting red meat, potatoes
and refined grains, such as white bread
  • Limiting dairy products to one or two
    servings a day
  • Replacing unhealthy saturated fat
    with healthier unsaturated vegetable oils
  • Consuming large amounts of whole
    grains, fruits and vegetables
  • Taking a daily multivitamin
  • Drinking limited amounts of alcohol

HEALTHY EATING PLAN

After ten years of providing basic nutritional advise with Capital Health Care in Canberra I would like to provide you with my healthy eating approach. This is pretty basic stuff ….

  • If it comes out of the ground it should be good for you. Please have a quick look at the Gofor2&5 Web site.
  • Fat is not your enemy when it comes to weight loss.
  • Fat is your enemy in blocking your arteries. E.g. a 98% fat free muesli bar will keep your arteries clean but the sugar (Calories) it contains will put on weight.
  • Sugary or sweet foods are higher in calories. If you eat food containing a lot of calories and
sit a desk all day like me you will put on weight.
  • Exercise burns calories.. Do it!!! I exercise every day minimum 40 minutes

I try the best I can to eat healthy from Monday to Thursday ie not a single biscuit, cake, packet of chips, small chocolate, can of soft drink (nothing unhealthy). If it doesn’t come from the ground ...

Friday night I might have a little bit of unhealthy food and maybe on the weekend if we are eating out, BBQ etc but I try and make healthy eating decisions. If you are looking for some ideas go to http://www.healthyeatingclub.org/index.htm they offer some fantastic nutritional programs (highly recommended)

Exercise (I put this in twice just in case) Relax.

Don’t ever diet. Follow a health eating plan for the next 50 years and you shouldn’t have to.

If you are not a healthy lean mean fighting machine. You need to look at the amount of exercise you do or look at your healthy eating plan (do you have one)

The legal bit

If you are over the age of 35 and don’t exercise regularly please consult your GP before commencing an exercise program.

The healthy eating plan above is my personal example. Hey it’s simple and it works. If you need more idea’s for healthy eating habits go to www.healthyeatingclub.org/index.htm or consult a nutritionist.

Thanks David
